In the late afternoon, a brief tour of Barletta and its main attractions: the Swabian-Anjou-Aragon Castle, the cathedral, the Colossus statue, and the tavern where the famous Challenge of Barletta was cast. Breakfast in the hotel, then transfer to Monopoli. City tour followed by a visit to an ancient oil mill protected by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. During the visit, which includes a tasting of local products, an expert will guide you through the captivating beauty of the olive grove and the process of extracting the local extra virgin olive oil (depending on the season). Lunch at a seafood restaurant, then transfer to Ostuni, known as the White City for the dazzling houses in the old town – a shining example of pure Mediterranean architecture. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel, then transfer to Polignano a Mare, a traditional Jishermen’s village just south of Bari. Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Matera. Visit to the timeless Sassi di Matera and the park of the Rupestrian Churches, which have both held UNESCO World Heritage site status since 1993. Lunch at a local farmhouse restaurant. In the afternoon, a visit to Gravina in Puglia, a town built on the edge of a 100-metre ravine within the Alta Murgia National Park. Inhabited since the Old Stone Age and once part of Magna Graecia, the rocky countryside features stunning archaeological sites with precious remains of temples, masonry work, and decorations that testify to the region’s rich history.
