Porto Selvaggio Natural Park is one of the most beautiful and uncontaminated places in Salento.
Porto Selvaggio is located in Nardò (LE), it is a natural park where the area of the park exceeds 1,100 hectares, a quarter of which is occupied by a pine forest, formed mainly by Aleppo pines.
One of the most famous and unmissable beaches when travelling in Salento, and probably one of the most beautiful in Italy. Porto Selvaggio is a magical place, to say the least, immersed in nature, it offers visitors a view of one of the most beautiful landscapes of the entire costa salentina.
The pine forest that surrounds the beach is in fact what makes the reserve of Porto Selvaggio a unique and relaxing place.
The sea is crystal clear and is bordered by low cliffs on both sides. The peculiarity of this beach is also given by a current of cold fresh water that comes directly into the bay.
You can get there by following one of the signposted routes, bearing in mind that in any case, to reach the sea you will have to walk for a few kilometers, but there is also a shuttle service that takes you near the beach.
The park runs along the coast for about 7 kilometers and, on the coastal stretch, presents some of its most beautiful attractions, above all the Grotta del Cavallo, whose first urban settlements date back to about 35 thousand years ago, witnessed by a series of archaeological findings of great importance.
In addition to the caves that can be seen on the surface there are those located underwater: the most striking is the Grotta delle Corvine where you can admire a rich marine fauna, populated by breams, hermit crabs and cypresses. Besides the spectacle offered by nature, this Salento Park boasts three ancient towers, the Torre dell’Alto, the Torre Inserraglio and the Torre Uluzzu, all built to detect possible attacks by invaders and is still well preserved. Exploring the park offers beautiful trails, which can be done both on foot and by bicycle.
