Breakfast in the hotel followed by a guided tour of Taranto, including a visit to the Romanesque cathedral and the National Archaeological Museum MArTA, whose impressive collections testify to the history of Puglia from Palaeolithic settlements to the Early Middle Ages. Lunch in the hotel. In the afternoon, a visit to a ceramics workshop and sightseeing in Grottaglie. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Massafra to visit Puglia’s largest complex of crypts, excavated by Basilian monks in the volcanic tuff walls of a ravine. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the underground village of Petrù scio (in Mottola), a complex of crypts dating back to the 11th through 13th centuries in the secluded wilderness of the ravine. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Martina Franca, renowned for its white wine as well as for its farms breeding indigenous species of donkeys and horses. Visit to a heritage oil mill with a sampling of locally produced extra virgin olive oil. Lunch at a traditional farmhouse restaurant and then transfer to Manduria, a stronghold of the Messapians during the classical age and the production site of the superb Primitivo di Manduria. Visit to a winery and a tasting of Primitivo di Manduria, then transfer to Oria, a small town towered by the Swabian Castle and a splendid 18th-century cathedral, followed by a tour of the village of Erchie and the famous sanctuary dedicated to Saint Lucia. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. Check-out and shuttle transfer to Bari or Brindisi airport.
